Photo Review: The Perfect Thanos : Custom Figuarts

THANOS IS COMING!

Avengers Infinity War and Endgame was a great wrapping of the first 10 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For many, The two movie was the story to conclude the first 6 Avengers members. But for me, these two films was all about Thanos and he was a great antagonist. More like a dark hero instead of a villain.

For those like myself who were a long Marvel Comic fan, MCU Thanos is so different that he almost has no connection to his comic counterpart. But that’s ok. If the character is done well, we should appreciate the change. And not all comic storytelling works for the general audience anyways so changes were inevitable.

Now, this blog review is “Figure Diorama Photography Review” as well as “How to make your PERFECT THANOS”. If you are not interested in how to customize your S.H. Figuarts Endgame Thanos, please scroll down to the med section of this blog.

When I mean making a perfect Thanos, I mean making a “film-accurate” Endgame version.

We have few brands offering the Endgame version Thanos but almost all of them had the Infinity Gauntlet on while he never did have that on him during this film (Yes, he had it on during the Infinity War). Marvel Select does offer a correct version but he’s 9 inches tall and therefore it probably won’t go well with you other 6″ line or 1/12 scale figures.

Now, Bandai did just announce that they will be releasing the film accurate Endgame Final Battle Edition which will be released in December 2020 this year. This version has no infinity gauntlet but a film-accurate left arm and the body has been upgraded here and there. I should take note that the biggest upgrade is on its hip area since the previously released Thanos couldn’t quite sit properly while the upcoming version can sit naturally on the base that comes with the figure. Yes, it looks awesome and I have ordered it too.

At this point, people might even ask why am I doing a photo review on a previously released Endgame Thanos if we are getting an updated one.

Well, one is that the new version coming is a battle damaged version. There are cracks all around the body armor and it’s cool and all but some people might be interested in seeing a clean armored Thanos.

The second reason is that I have made this custom upgrade in 2019 and I thought this would be my last chance to share this piece with you all.

Now, the Figuarts Endgame Thanos has two major areas that require correction. One is obviously its left arm. The second is his hip armor. Let’s discuss the hip first since it’s an easy fix.

Thanos right out from the package has his hip armor backwards. Yes, you heard me right. The hip armor is backward and that’s probably not Bandai’s fault. You see, most of the toy companies receive an early design of the characters and the design could change in midway.

Like for example, Hasbro’s Marvel Legends Black Dward looks nothing like the one from the film. This is because MCU decided to change the design but when such change was done, the toy company has already completed the figure from the submitted prototype art.

Now, let’s fix the hip armor!

The hip armour is actually glued on Thano’s back and if you can gently pull the armour, it should come off in ease. If not, try putting the figure in a hot water to loosen the grip of the glue.

The next thing you do is simply, rotate the hip armor 180 degrees and you are done. Easy isn’t it?

By the way, the upcoming battle damage Thanos from Figuarts corrected the hip armor too.

Now, the biggest problem is the left arm. You will actually need to purchase an upgrade for this.

I have bought a set that includes the left arm, double-edged sword and his helmet from a Facebook page called “SHF Upgrade” but apparently that page is now gone.

I do see an old order page here at Careiahn’s Online Shop https://www.facebook.com/careiahnscollectiononlineshop/posts/pre-order-po-closed-shf-thanos-gauntlet-off-left-arm-set-1900-dp-900shfupgrade-h/3136912889655941/

Apparently Gogotoys decided to release a far better set than the one I bought.

This set, which is called GG01 contain the proper left arm, damaged ironman infinity gauntlet, double-edge blade with an option to have one of the blade broken and two additional head sculpt. That’s amazing!

Unfortunately, the deadline for the preorder was August 29, 2020, but usually, these items do come back for a second batch. If the store still has stocks, you might be able to squeeze your order in. In fact, when I got my version, it was already way passed the deadline but they decided to do another batch and that is how I got my hands on it.

Once you swap the left arm and rotate the hip guard, you actually got yourself the perfect film-accurate Thanos from Endgame and because Bandai is releasing a battle-damaged version, it won’t be a duplicate.

I wonder what has happened to Heimdall sword “Hǫfuð”. I mean that must be made from an Uru Metal too. It should be one of the finest swords ever created. And no one including the Black Order took it for use? If I were Thanos, I’d definitely of took it for myself. As the length of the sword is a bit too long for an ordinary person but for Thanos, it’s perfect.

By the way, I am using Marvel Legend’s Heimdall’s sword. And I am a bit disappointed that they never gave us a full gold armored Heimdall. That’s the one we all wanted. Unless Heimdall returns, we probably would never get the MCU version with full armor.

Now, I have this weird belief that great villain must have a great throne. And Thanos had two thrones we saw in the film. I decided to hunt down the one that was in the Endgame.

I got mine at KGHobby Toys and Models Store. Again, this is long sold out but there were two variants where they offer just the throne or with the stairs too. I got the one with throne and stairs.

I do see the throne from the Guardians of the Galaxy at VCTOYSBOX https://www.vctoysbox.com/product/pctoys-pc009/?doing_wp_cron=1599221302.9652380943298339843750

If you search around, you might be able to find someone who offers the Endgame version so don’t give up! And if you just can’t find one, may be wait for a while. Thanos in this scale is popular. Also, some custom makers may decide to launch thrones to come with the upcoming Figuarts battle damage version.

Thanos with the throne would triple the awesomeness of this figure but Thanos with the Black Order would multiply the awesomeness by 100.

Sad that we never got the full roster of the Black Order in the MCU. Where did Supergiant, Coven, and the Black Swan go? And Terraxia is also someone I really wanted to see.

Because Bandai will never release the Black Order, I needed to go with the Marvel Legends one. The size difference between Figuarts and Marvel Legends Thanos is quite significant but since I will have Thanos sitting most of the time, that is ok with me.

By the way, if you want your Endgame Thanos from Figuarts to remove his helmet, you must purchase the Infinity War version and swap the head. It kinda sucks but MCU Thanos looks better without his helmet on. But if you want to save your money, the helmet version is badass enough too.

I must mention, the 3rd party Thanos arm set is a necessary item to purchase but the one I got totally had a QC issue. The left hand’s paint worn off without using it. The paint started to come off naturally and when I tried letting it hold the double edge blade, the paint became rubbing off fast. The blade also was bending and because it’s made of a rigid material, trying to straighten up may break the sword.

Here's where the "Figure Diorama Photography Review" starts!

The diorama is the process of world-building and by adding such factor, your photo will look much more convincing and that is what I like to share on my blog and Youtube videos.

Yes, this scene never happened and I do own an Infinity War version Thanos but this blog is about the full armored Thanos so I swapped the figure. The presence of Thanos deserves everyone’s attention

Look at Thanos’s presence!!

The Black Panther is from Mafex and it’s one of the few figures from Mafex that doesn’t come with a QC issue. I mean, it’s perfect. Far superior in proportion compared to the Figuarts one. The rest of the Avengers are from Figuarts.

Sorry, I lied. This Iron Spider is from Mafex too.
Recently Figuarts released an upgraded Endgame version Iron Spider. They are very close. But if you are wondering which one to get, the Figuarts one comes with Iron Guantlet so that could be your deciding factor.

The Black Order was definitely underused in the movie. Completely wasted. But unless the Infinity War and the Endgame are 6 parters, it’s impossible to go in-depth storytelling for every character so that is understandable. But if you loved the movie, go read the comic book. Corvus Glaive and Ebony Maw are such a badass in the comics.

Now, I will be having a dedicated blog page for this diorama and special effect parts to enhance your action figure photography.

Yes, we need the Iron gauntlet for Thanos.
Make it happen Bandai!
What!? The Figuarts Iron Spider included Iron Gauntlet will not fit Figuarts Thanos and Figuarts upcoming Endgame Thanos’s Iron Gauntlet is battle damaged!?
WHY BANDAI!? WHY!?

Yes, yes. I know. Thanos never had a clean undamaged Iron Gauntlet… sigh…
So, I’ve decided to use the Marvel Legends Hulk Build A Figure Iron Gauntlet.
And it actually fits well. You will need to use a blu-tac but considering it wasn’t made for, I think it’s working ok.
DOUBLE INFINITY GAUNTLETS!!
Yea, it’s not going to happen due to the law of the Infinity Stones but MCU screwed that part up badly so whatever.

The only issue is that if you want to do a double gauntlet, the Infinity Gauntlet looks much smaller.

I would do exactly what Nebula is doing here. RUN. And I kind of like how it was posed.
I can see her “NOPE, SCREW THIS I AM OUT” attitude.
Btw I am using the Figuarts version Nebula. And if you only have the Marvel Legends one, don’t try to swap it with the Figuarts one since the Marvel Legends one is awesome. Just that the size is a bit too big to stand beside Figuarts Thanos even if my Thanos is sitting down so I needed to get myself a Figuarts version.
Quil’s been blasted.
I don’t understand Bandai. You gave us Nebula and no Gamora?
And when can we get our hands on the GOTG 1 Star-Lord, Groot, and Rocket that we saw in the event display?
Also, give us Drax and Gamora and Mantis. And not to forget daddy too. I will get them all thank you very much.
My Mighty Thanos is happy with his double gauntlet.
By the way Tony, why couldn’t you just fly away with the infinity stones?
I hate you, Captain Marvel. You could have definitely survived the snap…

MCU is known for its great heroes but it is also known for the villains been coming very short. Most of them are a basic copy and paste template villain that gets killed off in one movie so there isn’t any buildup or growth. Like we never cared about Loki until his second appearance in the Avengers movie because he was given much more depth. That said, Thanos was done so well from his first actual movie “Infinity War”. He did appear there and here in other MCU movies but even if we didn’t get that, he was completely build up in the Infinity War. For this, I say he is the best villain in the MCU.

It was awesome seeing Thor taking revenge against Thanos but he actually did fail in the Infinity War.
I wanted Thor to be in his full strength to fight Thanos in the second match in the Endgame but sadly we got the fat thor who was clearly much weaker than the Infinity War.
Screw it! Thor deserves a kick-ass beatdown photography review.
The next Figure Diorama Photography Review will be Mafex Thor and this one will be action-packed as well as special effect item packed too!

A Youtube Video review for this Thanos will be coming out on Thursday, September 17th, 2020.

  2. Unquestionably believe that which you said. Your favorite reason seemed
to be on the internet the easiest thing to be aware of.
I say to you, I definitely get irked while people think about worries that they just don’t know
about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top as well as defined out the whole
thing without having side-effects , people could take a signal.
Will likely be back to get more. Thanks

  3. Hey! I know this is somewhat off topic but I was wondering if you knew where
I could locate a captcha plugin for my comment form?
I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m having difficulty finding one?
    Thanks a lot!

  4. I carry on listening to the news bulletin lecture about receiving boundless online grant applications so I have been looking around for the most excellent site to get one. Could you tell me please, where could i get some?

  5. Incredible! This blog looks exactly like my old one! It’s on a entirely different
subject but it has pretty much the same page layout and design. Excellent choice of colors!
