Oozaru Vegeta Figuarts Action Figure Unboxing Review

For more detailed photos and information, please continue below!

Before we start, my Youtube Video and blog will review the figure itself but most of the time I focus on photo shootings so that my audience can find new ways to play with these awesome toys. For this photo review, I scaled up the Oozar Vegeta to be more film accurate.

For a detailed review of its articulation and unboxing, please check my Youtube Video Channel.
The Tamashii Explosion effects I am using are also scaled up.

Now, to sustain its own weight, this figure uses a clicking joint and you MUST use the stand to safely pose him. He will definitely fall unless otherwise.

I said it’s huge but obviously he isn’t a proper 1/12 scale size. If he was, he would be like 5 feet or something. METRIC! Sorry, I am a Canadian. I only use metric since I am a carpenter too but most people in Canada and the rest of the world will say fxxx inch and feet. It’s roughly around 150cm and that’s a bit too big to and too expensive to sell. Probably it’ll just be a huge hollow statue.
This figure is roughly 33 CM or 13 inches.

As you can see, he can pose quite well. And I did mention he has click joints but that is not even enough to fully hold its own body weight. So the body frame for the arm area is a diecast to support the should pull out. This is Bandai’s first attempt to offer such a large scale Figuarts so everything is new to them. And I am sure everything and anything that could be better will be reflected in their next large scale projects.

The details are great. All those cracks add so much to enhance the scale of this figure. Just that they could have added some wash or panel line around their shoulder supporter or in their cracks to bring out those details. Even the back armor has details everywhere.

Oozaru Vegeta is the first Dragon Ball line with a jaw articulation! Well, that’s something expected. And the joint is well hidden too.
I might be asking too much but I kind of wanted the smile laugh face. But Bandai has given us two variants for his eyes. And that’s a welcoming option!

Now let us continue the review by doing some Figure Diorama Photo, shall we?

The Saiyan Saga was awesome. Sad that the English Dubbed version bad. Yes, I said it. English Dub poor. What sucks so bad? Goku’s voice actor. I am not sure why English Goku is so different from the legendary Japanese one done by Masako Nozawa who was personally picked by the author Akira Toriyama himself. Goku she does is happy, joyful, silly sometimes but can be very edgy and sharp as well. She can simply switch her voice tone to make Goku sound very dangerous. It sounds like he has something behind his confidence.

But the English one? Nothing. Probably that is why in the West, Goku is thought to be a brainless idiot but in Japan who has been watching Dragon Ball for a few decades, fans know Goku is a genius in combat strategy.

Voice is what makes characters come to life and it is simply sad that the fans in the west can never experience the true side of Goku. This could be not because of the voice actor but the director for the dub never understood how these characters are supposed to sound like due to lack of study. Hero Academia does so well in the English dub but that’s probably because the dubbing industry has learned a lot in these few decades.

Japan is known for “Transformation Characters”. In the manga, “Devilman” was one of the first to do a major physical transformation of the protagonist and this Oozaru is related to that concept for physically expressing your inner demon.

Dragon Ball is filled with iconic villains and Vegeta is probably the first one to shatter every hope that the audience had for the Z fighters. Anything you do to him, Vegeta endures and goes above. Goku did struggle against Tao Pai Pai, Demon King Piccolo, and Piccolo Jr. but we felt confident that Goku would defeat them because their power was very close on their first encounter.

But Vegeta was the first villain simply Goku never have defeated by himself. He needed his friends to take Vegeta down. This is the first time Goku knew there was someone beyond him which propelled Goku to fight as a team but still focusing on bettering himself.

You may have noticed but there are huge round holes on the inside part of Vegeta’s shoulder that will be visible when you pull the arm out. If there is something I do not like about this figure, it’s these holes.

I lied. There is one more thing I hoped they would have done better. It’s the jaw. It doesn’t open much at all. Oozaru Vegeta shoots Ki beam from his mouth and I wanted to recreate that scene but that is not possible with such a small jaw articulation.

Oozaru comes with a pair of open hands, a pair of a fist, and two more variations.

By the way, none effect pieces come with this figure.

So, Oozaru transformation is a 10 times multiplier. Now that Super Saiyan Blue and such are way beyond that, 10 times multiplier is not much at all, and having such a large body mass only make you a bigger target so I do understand why Vegeta no longer transform into it but it would be nice if we can see the return of Oozaru in the future.

What? Broly absorbed Oozaru’s power in himself? Yes, I know and probably Vegeta can gain the 10 times multiplier without transforming into Oozaru but that isn’t the point! I want Kaijyu in DB!

Posing this figure was a nightmare. Even the stand couldn’t hold him properly sometime and I was worried the figure will break if it falls onto the ground. I had so much fun but I would probably never try to pose this beast again.

Yup, he also comes with his pointing finger hand to crush Goku’s heart by “accident”.

Oops. Nope. It doesn’t look like that finger was that useful anyway lol.

Vegeta also comes with a mini Goku holding hands which is one piece.
I forgot to take a photo of Goku’s face. Sorry… But you can see those details on my Youtube Video Channel since I did take a video of it!

Sooo… Nappa, Piccolo, and Vegeta all can shoot Ki energy from their mouth but Goku can’t? If I were Goku, I will Ki poke Vegeta’s other eye.

In this photo, it looks like the figure is holding Goku in the right hand and his left hand is about to break his neck like in the manga but actually, Goku’s holding hands are one piece. You cannot remove them. I simply hid the left-hand portion of Goku’s holding hand outside the camera frame.

The Saiyan Saga storytelling was amazing because Goku and his friends faced certain death so many times yet they somehow were able to escape them. It hyped us up and put us on the edge until the very end of the show. Something we no longer see today in most manga or comic books.

I love Akira Toriyama characters because none of them are useless. Everyone has a purpose and even Yajirobe who is totally outranked in this battle will come to take a crucial part in the story.
This mini Yajirobe comes with an Oozaru figure and I need to warn that the sword isn’t a bendy material. It will break if you put it under a stress.

Oh, I forgot to mention. Oozaru comes with a chopped-off tail part too to further piss off Vegeta.

So my conclusion is, THIS FIGURE IS AWESOME!
It would be one of the centerpieces of your S.H. Figuarts collection and this is a historical figure. It is one of the first large scales of this line and many will come after. Yes, it cost me a lot to deliver from Japan and Canada’s duty tax is ridiculously expensive. Not to mention Canadian dollar is inferior to the Japanese Yen or USD so getting anything would be more costly for us Canadians but I wanted to support this project simply because I want to see Bandai doing more large-scale projects.
And anything new would cost manufacturer much more since they need to do a lot of test run and considering that the figure’s price isn’t actually that bad at all.

Now that Bandai officially confirmed First Form Frieza with his pod and Raditz, I think we can expect Zarbon And Dodoria in the future. We just need those two beside Frieza in his space pod. And I do hope they will do some villains from the movie universe like Cooler and Tarles.

And because I was asked to do more unboxing videos and reviews and not only figure photo diorama, I will be releasing more of those soon!
Keep tuned!
