This is my second Mezco figure and Mezo, you are amazing. I cannot stop praising you for what you’re doing. These are beautiful. And the box is also nice with respect to the Popeye franchise.

You’ve won Mezco, you have won. Done. Everyone, we’re good. Let’s go home. They’ve won. Mezco doesn’t a phenomenal job again for these two deluxe figures. And surely this is a deluxe set which comes with a lot of accessories.

Popeye comes with a total of three heads and Bluto comes with two. And the wrinkles are amazing! Mezco always adds their own style into their figures and it’s either a big miss or a big hit. And this is a super big hit!

Popeye comes with three sculpted hats which two are magnetized for a nice snap-fit. The one without the magnet will also fit very well. Bluto does come with his iconic hat too! Wonderful selection Mezco. Wonderful.

A decent amount of hand options will let you pose your figure in any sort of diorama.

Spinach can, crushed spinach can, folding watch and retractable monocular, and a hook are all nice accessories for these characters. You’ll also get a diecast wrench and weight for some reason. These were so heavy that they came out from their package. But the best part is, you get 2 variations on his smoke pipes and you’ll get 3 each to cover all 3 heads. Oh, and Mezco has the best base ever! It’s sturdy and well made. Second to none!!

Did I say this will be a big review? It’s crazy how much you can do with this set!!

Let’s start with his standard Popeye outfit. I don’t know if you were born when Popeye was airing but I surely was and this brings back so much memory!

It’s funny that in Japan when ever you hear the term “sailor uniform”, it’s referring to a high school girl’s uniform. I am not sure why did Japan took the idea from a sailor for their girl’s uniform but it’s far more iconic today than the actual sailorman.

He also comes in a raincoat and it’s beautiful!! I love the glossy texture! Just that the material’s so thin that the wrinkles will remain intact. So I think this will be the last time I’ll be putting these on him. The hat is cute but the hat is more like floating on his head instead of actually on the head.

I giggle seeing this yellow jacket because a lot of Japanese parents give these to their kids. I am a Japanese Canadian so I didn’t get one but I surely wanted it when I was a kid. Now I am an old man and I finally got one!! Just that it’s 1/12 scale though lol.

I love this casual jacket and hat. Popeye’s going to go rob a bank… I mean go home and rest.

Who would put their name on their bag? Tony Stark??

Bluto looks awesome with his leather jacket!! Such a badass!!

I think this is the best leather jacket on a 1/12 scale. Beautiful! And I also love the wash they gave to his pants! But for some reason, his shoes are totally clean even when there’s damage sculpted into it. Am I complaining? Absolutely not. I can weather that in ease.

Popeye has a decent articulation and you can do most of the poses you would want him to do but Bluto is quite restricted due to his massive body size. But if he can swing his arms, that’s good enough for me.

Popeye playing a dirty tricks this time.

In Japan, we have the term “kenka tomodachi”. It means “fight friend”. They eventually bond together after fighting against each other for so long. It’s like mutual respect. Something we don’t see much in Western cartoons or animation but it’s very much seen in Japan. It is cool if Popeye and Bluto team-up.

Bluto was so heavy that my wrestling diorama floor spring was pushing down! And he’s huge!! Popeye looks like a kid!

I really don’t see the point of having a diecast weight as an accessory. It’s so heavy that Bluto figure can’t hold it up well. The wrench too. Plastic could have made it easier to pose.

It’s time for zinc! I mean spinach power!! I have no idea why they were advertising spinach so much but hey! We love Goma-Ae don’t we all??

Popeye Shoryuken!! I love the hurt head sculpt for Popeye, it adds so much to the scene.

Bluto comes with a hurt head too but he’s not as damaged as Popeye. You can use this head for making Bluto look a bit drunk too.

Lady Rangers! Praise the old man! We need all our iconic cartoon characters to be in our city as a statue! That’ll be so much better than having these random artists getting paid to make some weird meaningless statues that none of us care to even take photos of.

I am sure Popeye will always say yes to a beautiful women’s offer. Me? I am a businessman. Looks mean nothing. But for some reason almost all cartoon and anime muscle guys tend to be super fragile against hot women.

Mike checking out why Bluto is carrying a huge hook. Btw, this hook is made of plastic and is very fragile so I rather have this diecast than anything else.

Anyhow, this was a massive set with infinite play factors! Mezco, you’re the king of soft goods 1/12 scale figure. I just can’t wait for your next announcement. I will be reviewing Christopher Reeves Superman from Mezco soon! And let’s hope 89 Batman isn’t too far from been released!
